Summary/Reader Response Draft 1

The webpage “Lifesaving drones designed with CAD software” (SIEMENS, 2019), introduces the use of Siemens NX CAD software to design Life-saving drones. Among its many features, The NX CAD software is designed to optimize the design, testing, and manufacturing processes. In terms of design optimization, the software allows its users to generate variations of the original design rather than creating more costly, physical prototypes to test the effectiveness of its design. This leads to shortened design time, which lowers the development cost and improves product quality (SIEMENS, 2019). According to the article, the Syncrofit feature of the NX CAD software “allows users to make well-informed design decisions for an overall smoother path to design realization” (SIEMENS, n.d). The article mentions that the simulation function of the NX CAD software in the case of designing Life-saving drones can perform virtual test flights while simulating the characteristics or properties of the differen...

Letter of Introduction

Subject: Self Introduction Dear Professor Brad, My name is Jonathan, a first-year student studying robotics systems at SIT. Previously, I was studying electronics at Temasek Polytechnic. My interest in robotics stemmed from my module studying robotics and automation, where I learned about the application of robotics in the industry and its vast possibilities. After the module, I utilized the knowledge to program a robot to solve a Rubik's cube for my final year project. My communication strength is being clear and concise. For example, during my time in National Service, I was an operations specialist at Changi Air Base. Part of my job is collecting and passing on information to various agencies and coordinating them during day-to-day operations or aircraft and base emergencies. Because of the nature of my duties, the information passed must be clear and concise, as the information was time critical and needed to be accurate to ensure all parties involved could perform their jobs e...

Reaction to Short Essay: The Soul of Communication

I believe that this article has highlighted the importance of effective communication in any organization. It has shown the effects of poor communication such as the cost of rectifying mistakes caused, as stated in the article where employee misunderstandings and poor communication resulted in 37 billion dollars lost. The article also highlights how the development department could improve skills training by including the core of communication which is critical thinking.  I believe that critical thinking is an important component of communication, as it enables ideas and thoughts to be exchanged effectively. As a leader I believe that without critical thinking, you would not be able to lead your team effectively as you are not able to communicate your ideas across. This would result in mistakes or work having to be redone as the objectives of the task were not communicated effectively in the first place. The use of critical thinking can be applied in not only the workplace but our ...

Paraphrasing from the quote by Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp

Original Quote "Developing excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective leadership. The leader must be able to share knowledge and ideas to transmit a sense of urgency and enthusiasm to others. If a leader can't get a message across clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even matter." Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp Paraphrased according to Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp “As a leader, it is important to constantly grow in the aspect of communication skills. They are required to have the knowledge and ideas to invoke a sense of urgency and motivation to others. If a leader is unable to convey the message that they are trying to bring across and enable others to act on it, there will be no use to the message.”
